And did she think that there were other people having the same problem? There is nothing wrong with taking a punt at the market. Whether it succeeds or fails, at such a young age, will give her experience that she would not be able to get by working for an employer. There are number of ways to skin a cat, and this being one. In this game, there is no right or wrong answer. Make what you think is the right answer by considering all the information and any advice available to you.

Well done. Wish you all the best

Re: Jessica Mah’s $500 to Startup

Just wish I am 18 and at the university to do the same. Unfortunately, I am more than double that age. But my current startup cost bit more than Jessica's at the time of Alpha launch.

Re: Jessica Mah’s $500 to Startup

Is every new website a "startup" nowadays?

Re: Jessica Mah’s $500 to Startup

I agree, seems lacking in actual opportunities. I'm friends with the owner of www.usaintern.com. They too are working out bugs, but have a far more comprehensive database of jobs.

Re: Jessica Mah’s $500 to Startup

Niche, not nitch. *sigh*

Re: Jessica Mah’s $500 to Startup

Cool! I'd love to meet more young entrepreneurs. If you know any, just let me know :)

Re: Jessica Mah’s $500 to Startup

A lot of 18-year olds have launched websites. What makes this special? :-)

The page is quite lacking in a lot of areas. Their own "Jobs"-page show no available jobs or internships -- but the search for internships show that they are indeed looking for someone.

And their landing page is pretty bad: "No Internship Found"

Let us know when/if they are profitable ;-)
